CSA FAQs

What is community supported agriculture?

CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production…

Members pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food production

What do I get with a share?

Every week we’ll fill a box with seasonal vegetables and herbs harvested directly from our farm and deliver it to you. We work hard to make sure the abundance in the box exceeds the exact value of your weekly subscription payment. Most full share boxes will be good for about 4 people cooking regularly - if your household has less than this, consider splitting with a neighbor or friend or getting a half share. Here’s some samples of what might arrive throughout the season:

Week 4: Beets, broccoli, carrots, cilantro, lettuce mix, peas, spinach, patty pan squash, turnips

Week 8: Asian greens, beets, cucumbers, ground cherries, basil, tulsi, peppers, summer squash, tomatoes

Week 12: Dragon tongue beans, carrots, cucumbers, basil, eggplant, parsley, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes

Week 16: Asian greens, green beans, beets, broccoli, cucumbers, parsley, basil, lettuce, peppers, radishes, winter squash, onions, garlic, celeriac, tomatoes, turnips

Can I choose what’s in my box?

At this time, we don’t offer customized boxes, but we will be sure to include recipes and information about the different items so you can fully enjoy everything in the box! The one exception is that if you have any allergies, please contact us or make a note when you sign up

What if I can’t pick up my box?

If you can’t pick up your box, please give us 48 hours notice and we will make arrangements. Forgotten boxes will be donated after 48 hours.

Can i labor trade for my csa share?

Yes you can. Please send us a message directly to sign up for our Workshare Program. It’s 6 hours a week for a full share or 3 hours for a half share. This can also be divvied up amongst your household. Task mostly revolve around harvesting, weeding, mulching and CSA box packing. Lunch is provided on work days. There are lots of other ways to arrange a labor trade as well, check out a list of opportunities on our Get Involved page

Where do I get my CSA box?

You can choose to either pick up your box at one of our 5 locations - Bayview, Riverwest, Wauwatosa, Sheboygan or our farm - or have the box delivered right to your door. Exact addresses and specific logistics for pick-up locations will be sent via email before the season starts

What is a Half Share?

Half shares are the same sized box as a full share except it only comes 10 weeks of the season - every other week instead of the usual 20 consecutive weeks

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel your share at any time. The way the CSA model works, though, we will not be able to provide any refunds because we rely on your advance funding to operate our farm throughout the season. If you would no longer like to receive your share, just get in touch.

When will I get my boxes?

Our CSA season runs from June 13th to October 24th. Pick up and drop off days will be every Tuesday. You can pick up between the hours of 2pm and 7pm. Door-to-door drop offs will happen between the hours of 2pm and 7pm. There may be more specifics depending on the pick-up location - we’ll keep you informed ahead of time

Can I change my pick up or delivery options?

Yes, just notify us at least 48 hours in advance and we can take your box to a different pick up site or directly to a new address you provide us with

Can I come help out on the farm?

Yes, definitely! There are lots of ways to volunteer with us - we have group work days, worker share options and all sorts of other things going on…check out the Get Involved links located around the site to learn more, or just send us an email or drop us a line, we’d be happy to hang with you sometime 🌱🌳🐛🦋✨
